Jamie Phillips, acting director of Marland Children’s Home was selected Chief Executive Officer by the Marland’s Board of Directors, Board President Joe Steil announced this weekend.

“In our process of conducting an extensive search, Mrs. Phillips impressed us with her combination of leadership, professionalism and caring,” Steil said. “This combination is rare and an absolute must for the person leading this organization.”

Steil said Phillips was already in charge of the clinical and therapy staff.

“She quickly embraced her new duties on the business side, during her interim appointment,” Steil said. “She also strengthened Marland’s fundraising and human resource functions. Her interpersonal skills are of the highest order. She is respected by our staff. And she is well acquainted with every one of our 44 student residents.”

Phillips said she looks forward to continuing her work at the home.

“For 84 years Marland has been a home for struggling or abused children,” said Phillips. “In most cases their challenges were not of their own making. It is our mission to help these children overcome their challenges. If they are to be productive and accomplished men and women, they need a strong and effective Marland Children’s Home.”

Volunteers and fundraising are key components for growing a stronger children’s home, Phillips said.

“Each year through the generous involvement of individuals, foundations, veteran organizations and businesses, we raise about 20 percent of our annual operating budget. This support is essential.” Phillips said. “We must continue to grow this support. In addition we must continue to grow our volunteer base. This resource, these people, brings great value and substance to our children.”

Phillips was born in Newkirk. She earned her BA in psychology from Oklahoma State University in 1996, and her MS in community counseling from OSU in 1999.

She has been with Marland Children’s Home for 13 years.

She and her husband Alan Phillips have two children, Taylor and Teagan.
