Marland Children's Home On-Campus School

Learning disabilities and emotional disturbances have been identified as an important risk factor that contributes to failure in school.
The Home has an adjunct campus to the public school system, with 4 teachers employed as well as 2 teaching assistants. Children are individually assessed regarding their progress, and mainstreamed to Off-campus public school as soon as their conditions will allow.
Basic Living Program

All of our children receive classes in training for Basic Living, such as; cleanliness, hygiene, social skills, food planning, household shopping, community awareness, etiquette and safety drills.
Many other subjects are covered that most of us may take for granted. However, we must remember that several of these children have not had much parenting if any at all.

Independent / Transitional Living Program

Independent Living Training is provided for all children 16 and older.
The children are taught life skills necessary for them to become successful and productive members of our society once they are "on their own".
They are encouraged to begin working as soon as they turn 16 and are taught how to manage their own finances, file taxes and run their own households.

Recreational Therapy

The Marland Children's Home offers a wide variety of both structured and unstructured activities for the children. In addition to recreational therapy, our children participate in sports, dances, swimming, fishing, camping as well as many extracurricular school organizations.

Community Services and Volunteerism is also encouraged and many of the children are involved in serving in many capacities such as; a nearby nursing home, Humane Society, March of Dimes, and Relay for Life benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Like kids anywhere, sometimes you just need to play around!

Sponsorship Program

Our sponsorship program is an integral part of our Home. For decades we have paired Legionnaires, Auxiliary members and community members with our kids to offer a medium for friendships, mentoring and the financial means to help provide for our children.

Some of the sponsorships include individual sponsorships, athletic/extracurricular sponsorships, dorm sponsorships or room sponsorships. Giving to the Marland Children's Home preserves our ability to serve future generations of Americans by providing a warm and loving home for these children.
